Russian Warplane Hits American Drone Over Black Sea, U.S. Says

The incident was the first known physical contact between the two militaries since the war in Ukraine began last year. WASHINGTON — A Russian warplane struck a U.S. surveillance drone over the Black Sea on Tuesday, hitting the drone’s propeller and causing its American operators to bring it down in international waters, according to the Pentagon, in the first known physical contact between the Russian and American militaries since the war in Ukraine started last February. The downing of the MQ-9 Reaper, a workhorse of the American military’s airborne reconnaissance fleet, immediately escalated tensions between the White House and the Kremlin as U.S. officials accused the Russian forces involved in the incident of behaving dangerously. American military officials said the unarmed Reaper ...

HAARP: Weather Control Is the HAARP Project a Weather Control Weapon?

"It isn't just conspiracy theorists who are concerned about HAARP. The European Union called the project a global concern and passed a resolution calling for more information on its health and environmental risks. Despite those concerns, officials at HAARP insist the project is nothing more sinister than a radio science research facility." -- From documentary on HAARP weather control capabilities by Canada's CBC HAARP: What is it? HAARP (High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program) was a little-known, yet critically important U.S. military defense project which generated quite a bit of controversy over its alleged weather control capabilities and much more. The project was shuttered by the military in 2013 after attracting large amounts of negative publicity, though HAARP-like res...

Russia’s ‘Killer’ Swarm Drone Project: Russian, Chinese Agencies ‘Partner’ To Attack Ukraine’s Military Infra – British Media Claims

By Ashish Dangwal In a covert arms agreement with Chinese spies, Russia’s infamous Wagner Group mercenaries are reportedly developing “swarm drones” to target Ukrainian armed forces. The explosive-tipped drones from China would reportedly be used in large numbers against Ukraine. These drones would be capable of wreaking havoc on military targets.  The British media claimed that secret discussions between Chinese cyber experts, the Wagner Group, and spies from both nations have taken place as part of Moscow’s killer swarm project.  The developments contrast Beijing’s claims that it is not engaged in the Ukraine war, morphing into a West-versus-East confrontation.   Over 2,500 DJI Mavic2 drones were shipped from Beijing to Moscow as part of a secret agreement with Russia’s infamous W...

Rafael upgrades Spyder system to counter tactical ballistic missiles

The Spyder air defense system can now counter tactical ballistic missiles thanks to an upgrade by its Israeli manufacturer, Defense News reported. The new feature by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems comes amid the war in Ukraine, which has featured a barrage of aerial attacks, as well as missile tests by North Korea and Iran. “The new capability involves the Derby LR missile interceptor, which underwent both hardware and software upgrades,” a company official said. In a separate statement, Rafael noted the additional capability “involved researching and analyzing the lessons learned from recent and ongoing armed conflicts involving extensive use of tactical ballistic missiles.” Rafael is one of Israel’s largest defense companies and is behind the successful Iron Dome system, which is a ...

THE KARGU-2 AUTONOMOUS ATTACK DRONE: LEGAL & ETHICAL DIMENSIONS

In March 2021, a UN Panel of Experts on Libya reported a possible use of lethal autonomous weapons systems—such as the STM Kargu-2—which “were programmed to attack targets without requiring data connectivity between the operator and the munition: in effect, a true ‘fire, forget and find’ capability” (para 63). The UN report refers to the deployment of this system in the context of the Government of National Accord Affiliated Forces (GNA-AF)—with Turkish military support—launching offensive campaigns against the Hafter Affiliated Forces (HAF) in what appears to be a non-international armed conflict. The report does not say for certain that human beings were killed by such systems operating without human supervision. Nevertheless, there has recently been an upsurge of media commentaries deb...

Drone advances amid war in Ukraine could bring fighting robots to front lines

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Drone advances in Ukraine have accelerated a long-anticipated technology trend that could soon bring the world’s first fully autonomous fighting robots to the battlefield, inaugurating a new age of warfare. The longer the war lasts, the more likely it becomes that drones will be used to identify, select and attack targets without help from humans, according to military analysts, combatants and artificial intelligence researchers. That would mark a revolution in military technology as profound as the introduction of the machine gun. Ukraine already has semi-autonomous attack drones and counter-drone weapons endowed with AI. Russia also claims to possess AI weaponry, though the claims are unproven. But there are no confirmed instances of a nation putting into combat ro...

Chinese ‘Espionage’ Of US Military Technology Could Receive A Serious Jolt As Republicans Take Charge Of House Of Representatives

When the Republicans take charge of the US House of Representatives next month, President Biden’s policy towards China will come under greater scrutiny by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, headed by Michael McCaul. McCaul, who represents the 10th District of Texas, and his fellow Republicans say that the Biden Administration has failed in curbing Chinese espionage in America, particularly the systematic way Beijing is “stealing” US research and technology, both civil and military. Republicans have maintained that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been using stolen American technologies to manufacture advanced weapons for many years. In October 2021, they issued an open letter to that effect. According to McCaul, the research and technology stolen by the CCP resulted in Chin...

NATO approves 2023 strategic direction for new innovation accelerator

On 12 December 2022, the Board of Directors of NATO’s Defence Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic (DIANA) agreed that energy resilience, secure information sharing and sensing and surveillance will be the priority areas of focus for DIANA’s work on Emerging and Disrupting Technologies (EDTs) in 2023. The three areas make up the backbone of DIANA’s Strategic Direction for 2023. The Strategic Direction will drive the identification of DIANA’s first defence and security challenges, for which dual-use technological solutions must be found. “This strategic direction gives the DIANA Executive clear guidance on the development of pilot programmes that we will launch in Spring 2023. These programmes will benefit both civilian and military communities” commented David Van Weel, DIANA’s i...
